About Hearing Aid Compatibility

Wireless handset accessibility for the deaf and hard of hearing is governed under the Hearing Aid Compatibility Rules and other Communications Laws in the United States.  Some digital phones can cause interference for hearing aid users.

To ensure the deaf and hard of hearing can use digital wireless devices without interference to a hearing aid or cochlear implant, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) updated the Hearing Aid Compatibility Act of 1988 ("HAC Act”), passing regulations to increase the number of hearing aid-compatible wireless devices.

The OTZ Wireless staff makes every effort to ensure that the deaf and hard of hearing have access to a wide array of compatible wireless handset devises.  More than 50 percent of the wireless handset units sold at OTZ meet hearing aid-compatibility deployment requirements.

Hearing Aid-Compatible OTZ Phones

Pursuant to FCC guidelines, the handsets listed below have been tested and rated for Hearing Aid Compatibility (HAC). These HAC ratings, or "M-Ratings" and "T-Ratings," help hearing aid users find the best phone for their needs.
